Hi blog readers,
That's right, I have a new buddy to jog with. She was 'umming and arring' yesterday evening walking back from school, but I expect she was thinking of a good excuse not to come. But come she did, looking lovely in her make up and trackies, nagging sister would be proud of her.
She knocked at the door, and I............ erm......... was not quite ready. My aching limbs kept me from jumping out of bed in eagerness to jog this morning, even with a new buddy to go with, I was just cleaning my teeth before getting my clothes on (always best if you have fresh breath, just in case you pass out and some hunky gorgeous paramedic needs to give you kiss of life) and besides that, I pant so much I don't really want morning breath to take away the fresh aroama of the flowers, grass, dogs doings.
So double quick time squeezing wobbly bits in to now falling apart jog pants to let in New Buddy. A quick scurry around to to find trainers and sweat shirt and then off out in the dreary daylight, with a very bright and cheerful new buddy.
'How fast do we run' says new buddy, 'Oh just a gently pace' I informed her and to her relief she said 'Oh that's great, I thought we were running, oh yes, this is good' she says with a smile. I'm thinking, its her first time out, wait till she gets on the path to turnaround lamppost, then she may not think its that easy!
Its a nice steady pace, and we bump into some friends who give us encouraging shouts of 'Go on girls, keep it up' as she desperately holds on to her rather large and playful looking boxer dog! 'It looks like he wants to come with you' says the friends. I was just glad she had a tight hold of the leash. New buddy seems to be enjoying the jog, I, on the other hand, was suffering. The pain in my neck has slipped down to my shoulder blade and is causing me problems with my breathing, I was hoping new buddy would want to walk some of the way, but she looks as fresh as a daisy, unlike me looking like a wilted lettuce.
'Oh this is not so bad at all' says new buddy, its like doing my "rebok steps" at home' So now she tells me, now I know! New buddy hasn't be vegging on the couch like I have done over these last forty something years, she has actually been doing some sort of keep fit regime at home. I knew she said she has a treadmill, but that is dismantled and in various parts of her house, which is probably what I would like to do to Nagging Sisters new beast! So she is not going to want to walk some of the way!
On and on to turn around lamppost, pain in shoulder refusing to budge, stopping me from taking deep breaths, but we make it. New buddy smiling away, looking gorgeous in her made up face, stretching bending, looking the professional. It took all my strength to lift my arms to cuddle turn around lamppost to stop myself dropping to my knees.
'Ok now back, are you ready?' I say to new buddy 'Yes I am', she says cheerily 'Are you?' If only she knew the real answer she would probably be calling for the ambulance! Well, at least its closer to home, at least every step is taking me back to my house, nice hot bath, cuppa, yogurt. Every step was not good, couldn't get my breathing right, finding it difficult to talk to new buddy, but trying to look as if I am enjoying it, after all I don't want to put her off do I.
Needless to say, I did walk some lampposts and treasured every painless step while I did. I said to new buddy that I normally sprint from the top of the road to my house, its a thing nagging sister seems to have programmed into me somehow, 'Oh ok' she says, with not even a hint of dread.
We reach the top of the road and then the sprint starts, new buddy takes off like the wind, where did she get thet energy from, and me trying to take a deep breath in to start. Running, running, new buddy disappearing round the corner, (she has gone over the bumpy path, I'm going to stick to the pavement), running, running, I see new buddy reaching the house, 16:41, I managed to look at the stopwatch for her, running running, no breath now, hurting, sweating, the house thank goodness, 16:48:49. Very poor time for this run, very poor time for this far into training. But new buddy giving me renewed strength by saying 'You're very good for doing this, old girl' I will reply to her, in a minute or two, let me just find where I left my lungs!
Oh, New Buddy, after seeing me glowing, sweating, panting, dying, says she is looking forward to doing again tomorrow!!
